Larnaca Municipality has finalized the contractor selection for the modernization of its central squares and streets. The re-tender process concluded with Miltiades Neophytou Civil Engineering Contractors & Developers Ltd being chosen to undertake the reconstruction of Acropolis and Alki squares and the refurbishment of Ermou, Konstantinou Kalogera, Gladstonos, Louki Akrita, and Orfeos streets in the heart of the city.
The official contract signing, accompanied by a project presentation, is scheduled for Thursday, June 27, at 10:30 am at Larnaca Town Hall.
AF Modinos and SA Vrahimis Architects and Engineers spearheaded the design of this modernization project, which focuses on enhancing the area’s aesthetics, functionality, and quality while ensuring safe pedestrian and vehicle movement. The initial tender on November 8, 2023, was unsuccessful, receiving only one bid due to budget constraints. As a result, the municipality increased the budget by 450,000 euros, from 3.1 million euros to 3.55 million euros, and issued a new tender.
This initiative aims to complete the city’s Sustainable Mobility Plan, improving landscaping, traffic management, and overall infrastructure. The revitalized squares, along with other developments in Larnaca’s commercial center, are set to become new urban highlights.
The contract encompasses comprehensive road improvements, including the removal of asphalt and the installation of cobblestones, pavement widening, and upgrades to the stormwater system, underground infrastructure, and utility networks. Additionally, the project will feature landscaping, fountains, and modern urban amenities.
Beyond the aesthetic and functional upgrades to Acropolis and Alki squares, the project also includes the full reconstruction of Ermou, Konstantinou Kalogera, Gladstonos, Louki Akrita, and Orfeos streets, significantly transforming Larnaca’s city center.
