The Paphos–Polis road faces a new delay. Transport Minister Evi Tsolaki told the House Finance Committee on 16 October 2026 that the Tenders Board had unanimously rejected both bids for phase 1, a stretch of about 15.5 km from Ayia Marinouda to Stroumbi (Cyprus Mail, RIK).
The rejected bids
| Bidder | Bid (excl. VAT) | Reason for rejection |
|---|---|---|
| Cyfield Construction | €124.85m | Essential documentation missing |
| Araco Construction – Geostroy JV | €128.94m | Far above the estimate |
| Ministry estimate | €90.2m |
The phase was tendered as a two-lane road with provision to widen to four lanes.
What happens next
The ministry says works will continue only under lawful procedures and financially justified decisions (Cyprus Mail). The minister is assessing options, including building a four-lane road, based on proposals the Public Works Department submitted on 16 September; their cost and timetable are still being evaluated. Polis Chrysochous municipality is asking for binding timeframes for a new tender.
The previous contract for the road, signed in 2021 for about €73m, was terminated after long delays.
